Location

La Motte du Caire, located in the southeast of France, is a small village of around 500 inhabitants. It is 25 kilometers north of Sisteron, in the Durance Valley.  Sisteron, known as the "Pearl of the Haute Provence", is well known for its 11th century fortification, le Citadelle.

Sisteron can be reached by bus (or by train) from Nice, Marseille, Aix, Grenoble or Geneva.   While La Motte du Caire itself is reasonably isolated, it is accessible via a local bus (or by taxi) from Sisteron.  To really avail yourself of the surrounding areas, a car is very useful and recommended.

La Motte itself has two grocery stores, a bakery and a bar/cafe/restaurant. In addition, a traveling market visits the main plaza on Thursday mornings. There is also a pharmacy, a doctor, hairdresser and post office.
